The Seven Deadly Sins
The Seven Deadly Sins are a popular way to categorize sins. Each Deadly Sin embodies an infinite number of sins that share a common motive. All seven are to be avoided, as they do lead away from God. (and are thus deadly in a spiritual sense)
In and of themselves, none of the Deadly Sins are actually sins; they represent different kinds of sin.
Wrath (aka Malice)
Wrath is the embodiment of sins that are committed out of anger and hate. These sins involve letting your anger control you. Anger clouds judgment and promotes the use of violence.
Gluttony
While this is commonly thought of as being the sin of over eating, Gluttony is more rightly the sin of over indulgence in worldly pleasures.
Lust
This Deadly Sin isn't exactly about sex; it's about wanting something more than wanting to obey God.
Greed (aka Avarice)
Greed differs from Lust and Gluttony in that it's not the use of something or the desire of using something. It's the desire to own something just for the sake of owning it, often at the expense of someone else.
Sloth
Being lazy isn't quite the definition of this Deadly Sin. It's being apathetic over things that are rather important, like your Salvation. The key to this Sin is the lack of taking action when you really should.
Envy
Envy is taking Lust to a new level. You want what someone else wants has, and you want it badly enough that you enjoy it when that person is harmed.
Pride
This is the sin of thinking too highly of yourself. Often it refers to people that think so highly of themselves that they consider themselves better than God -- the same error Satan made way back when he fell.
