We're to give our best to God, so it stands to reason that church, God's house, should be as beautiful as possible. It's seen as giving God our material wealth instead of keeping it for ourselves.

Also, most of the money collected by churches via fundraisers, donations or collection plates is given to charity or to help someone in need and is not kept by the church.
